Position Title: Manager, Marketing & Communications

The Organization:

BC Egg is a non-profit organization that oversees and manages the province’s egg farming industry. We work with approximately 150 family owned and operated egg farms, grading stations, the processor, and other industry partners to bring the goodness of BC fresh eggs to consumers.

Mandate:

BC Egg is the first-instance regulator of egg production in BC under the Natural Products Marketing (BC) Act and the BC Egg Marketing Scheme. BC Egg is responsible for the orderly production of eggs by regulating the production volume, transportation, packaging, storage, and marketing of ungraded eggs. It sets the price producers receive for eggs within the province. These duties are overseen by the BC Farm Industry Review Board, an independent tribunal established to supervise all marketing boards and commissions in BC.

At a national level, Egg Farmers of Canada is responsible for the orderly production of eggs and is supervised by the Farm Products Council of Canada. BC Egg must work closely with Egg Farmers of Canada and the provincial/territorial eggs boards within Canada to ensure the orderly production of eggs throughout the country. This working relationship is outlined in a Federal Provincial Territorial Agreement.

Proper governance requires that BC Egg understand the authority vested in it through Federal and Provincial legislation, as well as the political landscapes within BC and across Canada.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Communication and Marketing is responsible for BC Egg’s branding, communications, and marketing strategies, ensuring that all stakeholders are well-informed about the organization, our business and how the organization supports farmers and consumers in the province. This includes maintaining and improving BC Egg’s public image as well as representing BC Egg at a provincial and national level through meetings, committees and other working groups as required, building the reputation and visibility of BC Egg.

Corporate Communications

- Prepare and implement a strategic communication plan, including budget management, that ensures all stakeholders are well-informed about the organization's business and activities.

- Preparing communication and marketing materials, including annual reports, strategic plans, newsletters, and speeches

- Managing third-party communication applications and social media programs

- Website development and maintenance

- Conducting consultations and periodic surveys with members, the public and stakeholders

- Create relevant, meaningful, engaging, and informative Annual General Meetings, producer meetings, producer Christmas parties and other special events that ensure solid attendance

Marketing and Sponsorships

- Promoting, maintaining, and protecting the BC Egg Brand

- Prepare and implement a strategic marketing plan, including budget management, to increase public trust and drive consumption. This will include a paid advertising program and a large public outreach program, including trade shows and agricultural fairs

- Provide teachers with agri-education events such as virtual barn tours and professional development opportunities. Work with Agriculture in the Classroom to develop curriculum for all school ages

- Recruit, train and maintain a group of farmer Ambassadors

- Educate consumers about the egg industry, creating a positive image and building public trust

- Prepare marketing materials, including meet the farmer videos, newsletters, and shelf talkers

- Manage the sponsorship program, ensuring sponsorship dollars are spent according to the policy and the organization receives the appropriate return on investment and recognition

- Work with producers to host an annual charity golf tournament

Crisis Communications and Media Relations

- Manage proactive and reactive media relations, including training media spokespeople and writing key messages

- Monitor media for relevant industry and political news, ensuring organizational awareness

- Effectively manage contentious issues involving multiple stakeholders with varied interests, maintaining positive stakeholder relations

Education and Experience

Education

- A bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications or a related field is desirable

Experience

- Minimum five-ten years’ experience at the management level in a regulated industry

- Minimum five-ten years’ experience in marketing and communications

Hard Skills

- Proficiency with digital and content marketing tools

- Understanding of SEO and data analysis as it relates to marketing

- Ability to understand and interpret government statutes and regulations

Compensation - $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 Salary, vacation package, benefits. Subject to relevant experience.
